The support and environment we grow up in can have a deep impact on the adults we go on to become. To help foster positive ideals and encourage young people to grow into their best self, despite limiting societal or familial situations, LUCY Outreach offers a number of essential programs and services to Camden’s young adults.
Who is LUCY Outreach, and what do they do?
How It Started
LUCY Outreach was founded to offer teenagers and young adults around Camden the tools they need to succeed in their lives.
The folks at LUCY Outreach work under the understanding that there are many factors that influence how young people grow up—such as their home life, peers, and neighborhood. Rather than allowing negative experience and influences continue to effect these teens, LUCY Outreach works to fill that void with positive programs.
Their mission is to empower youths to form healthy relationships, make good choices, and grow into responsible and compassionate adults. So far, they have had other 1,000 participants since its founding, with over 250 people currently in the program. Since 2008, they have had 100% high school graduation rate with 93% going on to enroll in college.
Working for the Teens
Given the diverse community around Camden, LUCY Outreach extends a helping hand through multiple avenues and programs. Overall, they offer multi-lingual, culturally sensitive services to low-income Camden county and teens, young adults, and their families. These services are designed to help in their education, social development, and cultural awareness.
Students can work with them to get help with college prep and tutoring or to learn important life skills. Young people will learn to develop a healthy mind, body, and spirit, as they engage with their peers and make new friends.
There are countless programs, festivals, and more aimed toward educating young people about social justice and inclusivity. They place an emphasis on civic responsibility, aiming to show teens how important it is to serve your community.
