Acura MDX vs BMW X5: Interior Space
Passengers of the 2020 MDX and 2020 X5 will find the two cars are plenty roomy, which isn’t surprising given their size. In each vehicle, front-row passengers will get more than 40 inches of legroom and second-row riders will get 36.6 inches, while third-row occupants in the MDX will get 28.1 inches.
With that third row, the MDX can accommodate up to seven people (the X5 seats just five in the base trim level). The MDX has a larger trunk, too, with up to 90.9 cubic feet total when second- and third-row seats are folded. You can fit more storage bins, furniture, or camping gear than you could in the X5 model’s max 72.3 cubic-foot space.
The 2020 Acura MDX and BMW X5 have top-notch infotainment systems seamlessly integrated into the dash. Both feature a touchscreen display and conveniences like AM/FM radio, CD/MP3 playback and Bluetooth® wireless tech for hands-free calling and audio streaming. The MDX goes further, though, by providing a second screen, so you can see audio info and navigation directions at the same time.
To make smartphone connectivity easier and more intuitive, the Acura MDX has standard Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ integrations. You can access your messages, music library, and more from the vehicle’s media screen. While the BMW X5 has Apple CarPlay™, it doesn’t offer Android Auto™ integration.
Innovative Safety Features
The 2020 MDX comes with a standard Multi-View Rear Camera with Dynamic Guidelines, which makes backing up and parallel parking a breeze. The 2020 X5 does include a standard rear camera, but it’s just a single view, so you’ll have much less visibility.
In the MDX you’ll also get a standard Lane Keeping Assist System, which helps you stay securely in the center of your lane through alerts and gentle steering adjustments. Over in the X5 this system is just an available add-on.
