As the 2022 Acura MDX joins the model lineup, you may be wondering how it compares to the 2020 model. Either luxury SUV has the comfort and capabilities to handle any Maple Shade, Moorestown, and Cherry Hill, NJ, drive, so the question is: Which is right for you?
To help you decide, our Elite Acura team crafted this 2022 Acura MDX vs. 2020 Acura MDX comparison. Let’s take a look at how each SUV measures up!
The interior of both MDX models is incredibly similar. Each comes standard with leather- or leatherette-trimmed sport seats and a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. However, the 2022 MDX has an available driver’s seat with power lumbar support, thigh extension, and side bolsters for maximum comfort.
The biggest difference between these models is the second-row removable middle seat of the 2022 MDX. While either SUV offers seating for up to seven passengers, the 2022 model gives you the ability to remove the middle seat and create two second-row captain’s chairs with easy third-row access when you want it.
If you want second-row captain’s chairs in the 2020 MDX, there are models available for you to choose, but you won’t have the 2022 MDX’s ability to customize your ride.
What kind of performance abilities will you find inside the Acura MDX? Where the 2020 model comes with either a 3.5L V6 engine or a 3.0L V6 sport hybrid engine, the 2022 comes with just the 3.5L V6 engine.
Since both SUVs offer incredible power, you can expect a maximum of 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque out of either 3.5L V6 engine. That engine also allows either SUV to tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped with the available Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) system.
However, one difference in their performance abilities comes with the different transmissions you’ll find in each vehicle. Both transmissions will come with Sequential SportShift paddle shifters, so you’ll get to take control of gear shifting when you want. The 2020 model comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission, while the 2022 model has a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The 2022 Acura MDX and 2020 Acura MDX also have slightly different interior dimensions:
